Dragon Ball Journey
Tale 1 - Bloomers and the Monkey King This is the title page for the first ever chapter of Dragon Ball. This was to be a short running manga based on the well known Chinese legend ‘Journey to the West’. Bulma’s hair was coloured teal in this chapter, but would later be ret-conned as purple. The anime kept her hair teal however, which caused confusion when her purple haired son was born! The title of this chapter is a reference to the characters names. Bulma’s name means ‘Bloomers’ (Buruma being how it’s said in Japanese). Son Goku’s name is at least partially derived from ‘Sun Wukong’, the name of the Monkey King in ‘Journey to the West’.
